Ethan's Gastronomy

04 Aug 2006 11:56 am
So the other week, Ethan (Circle's brother) discovered a new pizza joint in Provo. It's called "Nicolitalia" and is run by a guy from Boston with a thick Bostonian accent.

For those Italian speakers out there: He has a special dish where he wraps the crust around the pizza before he cooks it commonly known as a "Calzone" ("stocking" or "big sock" in Italian). But he called it a "Scappa" ("escape" in Italian). After badgering him about it (and looking at the menu) we finally discovered that it's actually a "Scarpa" ("shoe" in Italian) his accent just rendered it as "Scappa." ... I thought it was funny anyway.

But the real reason I'm posting is because Ethan took on Nicolitalia's challenge to eat an entire deep dish 15-inch pizza in under an hour. It was quite a spectacle, but he was able to do it....of course he had pizza dough lodged in his esophagus. His time: 59 minutes and 59 seconds. He got the pizza he ate for free and a 15 dollar gift certificate.

Jeff and Luisa McKee were in town staying with us for a couple days and they enjoyed the entertainment.

Here are some pics:
